Dutch Grand Prix rider Margo Timmermans has retired her number one Grand Prix horse Utah from competition. The 15-year old gelding sustained a career ending injury and will now enjoy his days in the field.
Utah is a 2001 born KWPN gelding by Metall out of Goodwill (by Animo x Omega).
In 2012 Timmermans made her international Grand Prix debut on the bright bay gelding at the CDI Stadl Paura. Utah was not always the most co-operative in the show ring, which resulted in high and low scores on the board. Still in Pompadour, Treffen, Kapellen, Arnheim and Nieuw en St Joosland they were more consistent over the years.
The pair last competed internationally a year ago at the CDI Achleiten in June 2015. Utah could not recover from a sport injury which he sustained, which was the reason for his retirement.
"We've had great moments together, but also moments of stress, bizarre moments, happy and sad moments," Timmermans told Dutch publication Horses.nl. "I've learnt so much from Utah and together we rode at the most beautiful shows in the world." Utah will no go into the field, "together with his buddies, just doing nothing."
Timmermans is now campaigning the 8-year old Dutch warmblood Catch Me (by Dreamcatcher) at international Grand Prix level.
