2016 Austrian Warmblood Young Horse Championships

The 3-year old Furstenberg, the 4-year old Jacarda M, the 5-year old Flamini, and the 6-year old Cantate L became the champions in their division at the 2016 Austrian Warmblood Young Horse Championships held in Stadl Paura, Austria, on 23 - 25 September 2016. These Austrian Young Horse Championships for homebred horses run quite similar to the German Bundeschampionate with a distinction between riding horses and dressage horses.

The 3 and 4-year olds are grouped in the riding horse division. A panel of judges assessed the qualified horses and the four highest scoring horses are test ridden by two guest judge rider. This year Clemens Croy and Stefan Peter served as test riders. 

In the group of 3-year olds the title went to stallion Furstenberg (by Franziskus x Coriograf B), bred by Herbert Staneks and owned by Bartlgut. Under Ulrike Prunthaller, the bay stallion scored a total of 8.79 points, with a 7.5 for walk, 9.5 for canter and 9.0 for trot and conformation. Martin Hauptmann and Don Frederico's Wolkentänzer (by Don Frederico x Weltmeyer) became the reserve champions with 8.46 points. This horse scored 9 for walk, 8.5 for trot and canter and 7.5 for conformation.

In the group of 4-year olds the victory went to Jacarda M, who also became the 2016 Austrian Mare Champion. Bred by Franz Meier and ridden by Ulrike Prunthaller, Jacarda M (by Zack) scored a total of 8.76 points. The mare got 8.5 for walk, 10 for trot, 8.0 for canter and 9.0 for conformation. Heinz-Jorg Wächter and Garanca (by Bretto Woods x Swarovski) were the runners-up with 8.69 points. The mare got 8.5 for walk and canter, 9.0 for trot and 8.5 for conformation.

The dressage horses are grouped per performance level. The A-level horses, which can be aged 4 or 5, performed their final class on Sunday 25 September and Stefan Lehfellner topped the board with Flamini (by  Fürst Grandios). Bred by Christian Grossholzner, the bay stallion scored 8.7 for trot, 7.5 for walk, 9.2 for canter, 9.0 for submission and 8.8 for general impression to total 8.64 points for the title. Heimo Kendlbacher and the 5-year old Broadmoars Morgenstern (by Desperados x Derano M) were the reserve champions with 8.58 points. This horse got 8 for trot, 9 for walk, 8.4 for canter, 9 for submission and 8.5 for general impression.

In the L-level finals for 5 and 6-year old dressage horses, Dutch rider Bart van den Vorst topped the board on mare Cantate L (by Fiorani x Danny Wilde) with a total of 8.02 points. The mare got 7.8 for trot, 8.2 for walk, 7.8 for canter, 8.5 for submission and 7.8 for general impression. Petra Wiesenberger and Moosbachhofs Fingal (by Fit for Fun x Rubinstein) were second with 7.78 points. This horse earned 7.5 for trot, 8.0 for walk, 7.8 for canter, 8.0 for submission and 7.6 for general impression.
