Due to ongoing financial issues, the state stud of Prussendorf might be coming up for sale. Prussendorf has been struggling to survive since 2011 and the state is now considering selling the buildings and maybe the adjacent land.
In 2011 the institution disclosed its financial struggle. In 2014 a company with the state of Saxony-Anhalt as sole share holder was established to help the stud.
The Stud Prussendorf annually receives 300,000 euro from the state but revenue is also generated through the agricultural development of the fields attached to the stud. By selling the propery the state hopes to raise 5 million euro over the next two years.
Klaus Rehda, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that "our goal is actually to sell the stud itself, i.e. the buildings. As far as the land is concerned, it would probably make sense to leave it in the possession of the state."
