Oldenburg Breeding News

The Oldenburg licensed breeding stallion Sao Paulo has passed away on 8 December 2016 at age 29. The bay stallion was euthanized as his health had deterioted due to old age and there was no more hope for improvement.

Sao Paulo was bred by Paul Schockemohle at Gestut Lewitz and born in 1987. He was by Sandro out of Gibsy (by Gepard x Wettstreit).

He was licensed as a premium stallion with the Oldenburg society in 1989 and sold there to Dr. Bade, managing director of the Celle State Stud. He completed his Stallion Performance Test in 1990 in Adelheidsdorf, which at the time was a 300-day testing! He scored 107 points in dressage and 122 points in show jumping.

As of 1991 Sao Paulo stood at stud in Celle and later on at the stations in Ankum, Ihlow/Bangstede, Natbergen and Waldhöfe. He retired from stud in 2013 and spent his retirement back in Celle, where he was also put down yesterday afternoon.

Sao Paulo's most successful offspring is Isabell Werth's Satchmo. He won Olympic gold and individual silver at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong and won double gold at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

Sao Paulo was a very versatile producer. One of his most successful jumper get is Simone Meurer's Sao Paulo, who competed at the 2005 European Young Riders Championships in Switzerland.

Sao Paulo sired 20 state premium mares and six sons were licensed (including San Saluto, Santano, Schow Men, Salvatore, San Brasil) with the Hanoverian society. As a dam sire he had an influence on licensed stallions Woodlander Rockstar (by Rotspon) and Rosentanz (by Rohdiamant).
