At the same time as the Dutch Equestrian Federation announced the 2017 Grand Prix squads, the federation also released its action plan and new rules for the 2017 show season which will culminate in the European Championships in Gothenburg in the summer.
The CDIO Rotterdam and 2017 Dutch Dressage Championships will be the official team observation and selection trials for the 2017 Europeans. Team trainer Rien van der Schaft will also further announce a set of CDI 4* and 5* competitions that will count as observation events.
At these observation trials it will be mandatory for riders not only to compete in the Grand Prix but also in the Special and/or Kur depending on the show format.
The A- and B-squad will be restricted to a total of 13 riders and if more fulfil for squad criteria, it will be at the team trainer's discretion who will be submitted.
After failing to bring a needed team reserve to the 2016 Olympic Games, the KNHS has now added rules and requirements to position of team reserve in the official "general participating agreement 2017". When the reserve rider, selected by the team trainer, chooses not to travel to the Championship or Nations' Cup competition, he will be removed from the squad that show year as well as the next.
