Hannelinde, Dodge Raider, Flanell Win First Dutch Trial for 2017 World Young Horse Championships

2017 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses

The 5-year old Hannelinde, the 6-year old Dodge Raider and the 7-year old Flanell became the winners of the first selection trial held for Dutch horses to obtain team selection for the 2017 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo, The Netherlands, the first weekend of August. The first selection trial was held in Almelo, The Netherlands, on Sunday 23 April 2017.

Four qualifier shows have been allocated for the Dutch WCYH selection process: Almelo (23 April), Kootwijk (12 May), Nieuw en St. Joosland (21 May) and Schaijk (2 June). The 15 best horses from the qualifiers as well as the 2016 Pavo Cup will be eligible to contest the semi-finals in Etten Leur (16-17 June). The Finals are held at the 2017 Dutch Championships in Ermelo (13 - 15 July 2017) after which the team will be announced.

In the 5-year old division in Almelo Spanish born and Liessel (NED) based Ainhoa Prada Ortiz won aboard the Dutch warmblood mare Hannelinde (by Dream Boy). The bay mare scored 81.6 points, which was the young horse high score of the day. Prada Ortiz was coached in Almelo by Remy Bastings. Her mare Hannelinde was the 2015 VSN Trophy winner and in 2016 she became the price highlight of the Excellent Dressage Sale, selling for 175,000 euro to Dominique Mohimont and Arnd Erben. Olga Boucher and Houdini La Haya (by Krack C) were the runners-up with 78.6 points, followed by Thamar Zweistra on Haliego (by Diego) with 77.2 points. 

Professional Grand Prix rider Thamar Zweistra topped the board in the 6-year old class aboard Dodge Raider (by Desperados) with 78.2 points. She edged out Joyce van Schaick on Glendale (by Ampere) who scored 75.2 points. Marlou de Ruyter and the 2011 KWPN Foal Champion Gregwaard (by Florencio) were third with 75 points. 

Eight combinations contested the 7-year old division and Veronique Roerink aced the class aboard Flanell (by Apache) with 73.90%. Belgian based Tommie Visser and his husband Rob van Puijenbroek's Fabiola (by Sir Oldenburg) were second with 72.91%, while Marijke van Giesen and Hexagon's Finomana (by Rubiquil) slotted in third with 72.03%.
