The Belgian equestrian federation has updated the senior Grand Prix squads of 2017 in the month of June. Only two riders so far have achieved the set criteria for the A-squad.
Belgian Olympian Jorinde Verwimp and brand new combination Fanny Verliefden on Indoctro van de Steenblok are the only two who have achieved 3 times over 71% in the past six months at either a national or international show.
The B-squad (3x 68% over the past 6 months) has a further two riders: Laurence Roos and Jeroen Devroe. The latter withdrew last week from competing on the Belgian team in the Nations' Cup at the CDIO Rotterdam as his horse sustained a minor injury. This 2017 show season Devroe has only competed one show so far, the CDIO Compiegne in May.
Belgium has no Under 25 riders who achieved 3x 67% over the past six months. Two U25s, Carole Schepens and Soraya Brison, have been competing internationally in the Under 25 division this year achieving mid sixties' results.
The High Potentials group is a squad with rising Grand Prix combinations. Only one of them actually competes at international Grand Prix level. The French based Belgian Justin Verboomen is listed with Salieri but not Nevado de la Font, which he showed in the big tour at the CDI Saumur.
No reference was made to the Grand Prix C-squad (2x 66%) or who is still in it. In February 2017 the C-squad still included six riders (Dorpmans, Engelen, Franckx, Hannes, Heylen, Meiresonne).
