The annual international Trakehner Bundesturnier took place the weekend of 22 July 2017 in Hanover. As usual, part of the action was an elite foal auction that has consistently produced approved stallions and successful sport horses since its inauguration.
The new National Dressage Champion, a title given to the best placed horse from the two M dressage horse classes, is the approved Glücksruf II (by Dramatiker – Opernball, breeder: Gudrun Bartels, owner: Gestüt Ganschow) with Libusa Mencke in the saddle. The stallion won both M classes (scores of 7.8 and 8.3) and added the National Champion title to his already impressive record. He is qualified for the Bundeschampionat this year, and will also represent the breed at the FEI World Championships of Young Dressage Horses for the Czech Republic. Interestingly, at his approval, he was awarded the best jumper prize and his full brother, the approved Glücksruf I is an accomplished international eventer.
The highest dressage class at the Bundesturnier, an S** class, was won by Sidney Bay (by Axis TSF – Kostolany, breeder: Nicole Schienstock, owner: Jost + Corinna Hellmann), whose career started as a premium stallion in Neumünster. Under Nuno Palma E Santos, the dark bay scored 73.967%. 2nd place went to Brequet (by Tivano – Silvermoon, breeder: Jens Thorsen, owner: Dr. Michael Becker) and Katja Camp with a score of 72.017%, followed by Samtgraf (by Grafenstolz TSF – Rockefeller, breeder: Georg Pleister, owner: Monique Mühlhause) under Nicole Kapche (71.467%).
An interesting division was the S level class ridden in a bridle instead of the usual double bridle. It was won by the 7-yr old gelding Königsberg (by Imperio – Hibiskus, bred and owned by Dr. Jasmine Skaide) under Ariane Sander with a score of 7.5, followed by the 8yr old mare Coccinelle (by Kasimir TSF – Tanzmeister I, breeder: Karla Zimmermann – Blindenbacher, owner: Nina Blindenbacher) under the owner (score 7.2).
The foal auction’s prize highlights were three offspring from the first crop of the former Neumünster Reserve Champion Helium (by Millennium – Induc), who had a total of 6 foals selected for this auction. The prize highlight was Fliedertänzer (by Helium – Axis TSF, breeder: Karl Skupin), who sold for 21,000 Euro. Fliedertänzer had previously won the foal show at Klosterhof Medingen. Two foals sold for 20,000 Euro and both are leaving Germany: the colt Ferrari (by Helium – Impetus, breeder: Dagobert Vester) was bought by customers from Austria, and the filly Verheißung (by Helium – Camaro, breeder: Heike Dietzel) sold to Switzerland. Considering that another 4 foals shared the same direct paternal line of Easy Game and his sons Millennium and Honoré du Soir, and the entire lot was only 23 foals, it puts quite some pressure to perform on this particular genetic background, which traces back to Gribaldi. The average price for a Trakehner foal this year was 9,650 Euro.
