Danish Under 25 team rider Marlene Storkborg has announced the end of her active competition career as a dressage rider. The 25-year old has has decided to focus on her studies and finding a job in 2018.
"I'm currently still studying, but will graduate in December as a candidate of Science in techno-anthropology, and then I hope to find a job," Storkborg told Eurodressage.
Wrapping up her academic career at the Aalborg University, Storkborg added on Facebook that it has been a long and sometimes hard journey, but it has been worth it and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved. Although it is with bleeding heart, I have come to the conclusion that it is better for us to finish at the top because soon a new chapter is waiting for me with (hopefully) a full-time job when my education is completed and thus less time to focus on sport."
Storkborg has an active FEI level pony career in 2008 with Ulfenbach Desirèe. In 2009 she moved to junior level with Lillemarkens Acanthus. She then disappeared from the international scene to make her return in 2017 at Under 25 level with the 12-year old Danish warmblood gelding Fritz (by Don Romantic x Classic). They competed at the CDI's in Mannheim, Uggerhalne and Aachen before representing Denmark at the 2017 European Under 25 Championships in Lamprechtshausen, where they were 15th in the Short Grand Prix. The pair also won silver at the 2017 Danish U25 Championships in Broholm.
