Irish Grand Prix rider Kate Dwyer severely injured herself in a riding accident on Wednesday morning 13 September 2017. Dwyer fell off a youngster and fractured her spine in the lumbar region.

"The prognosis is positive but I will be in a back brace for at least the next 4 weeks," said Dwyer. "I am incredibly disappointed to be missing the National Championships as I had my three boys fit and ready to go!"

Dwyer has been competing the 11-year old British bred Snowdon Faberge (by Foxcourt Fabelhaft out of Snowdon Daisy) at international Grand Prix level this year. The pair showed at the CDI Keysoe in March where they scored 66% in two Grand Prix classes.

Despite the accident Dwyer is optimistic about the future and hopes to recover soon.

"I will stick with my mantra of "what's meant to be will be" and keep thanking my lucky stars that I walked out of the hospital. Madonna and Lady GaGa would be jealous of my new attire! Onwards and upwards," said Dwyer who left the hospital wearing a spinal brace.
