The National Equestrian Federation of Ecuador has announced the dressage team that will represent Ecuador at the 2017 Bolivarian Games in Santa Marta, Colombia, on 17 - 22 November 2017.
The Bolivarian Games are a regional multi-sport event held in honour of Simón Bolívar – known as "El Libertador" - the leader of several independence movements throughout South America, collectively known as Bolívar's War. To this day he is credited with leading the fight for independence in what are now the countries of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Bolivia. The event is open to these 6 countries liberated by Bolívar or those born from these.
The next and 18th edition of the Games will be held in Santa Marta (COL) in 2017.
The Ecuadorian dressage team includes:
- Julio Mendoza on Chardonnay, a 12-year old Oldenburg gelding, owned by Sheila O'Keefe and Julio Mendoza.
- Franziska Klinkicht on Roelof van Wolfshol, a 12-year old Friesian Gelding, owned by Kristine Erickson
- Maria Jose Granja on Emiliano P, a 15 -year old Brazilian Stallion, owned by Maria Jose Granja
- Carolina Espinosa on Pegazo, a 12-year old PRE gelding, owned by Jose Rafael Bustamante
Both Carolina and Julio represented Ecuador at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Julio Mendoza also represented Ecuador at the 2015 Pan American Games in Canada. Maria represented Ecuador at the 2013 Boliviarian Games in Lima, Peru. Franziska represented Ecuador in the 2010 South American Games in Medellin.
Colombian 4* judge Cesar Torrente is the Ecuadorian team trainer.
