On Thursday 1st and Saturday 3rd February the 18th edition of the KWPN Select Sale will take place at the KWPN Stallion Show in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. On Saturday, a selection of about 20 dressage stallions will be auctioned by auctioneer Frederick De Backer, starting around 06:00PM. The collection is now published on www.kwpn.nl/selectsale and during the KWPN Stallion Show, some exciting stallions will be added through the wildcard system.
Over the years, many successful dressage stallions have been sold through the KWPN Select Sale. Think of famous stallions like Blue Hors Zack, the KSS top-seller of all time and nowadays one of the most successful breeding stallions in sport. Or the legendary Rousseau, who turned out to be one of the most influential sires of the past decade. But also Hans Peter Minderhoud’s rising star Dream Boy was sold through the KWPN Select Sale. Recently, Dream Boy made his Grand Prix debut with a score of nearly 75%.
Former KSS-stallions
In addition to the superstars Blue Hors Zack, Rousseau and Dream Boy, more great dressage horses found their way through the KSS. For instance the highly successful stallion Four Legends, the KWPN approved Chagall D&R, the promising Dark President D&R, but also the wonderful Grand Prix horse MDH Avanti N.O.P., ridden by Anne Meulendijks.
Nico Witte: ‘This year’s collection will certainly include some potential breeding stallions and sport horses’
Nico Witte also emphasizes the strict veterinary requirements that the KSS horses have to meet. “As far as the clinical and radiographic tests are concerned, we probably set the highest standards for all stallion auctions in Europe. The dressage stallions, for example, are also subjected to a neck and back examination, which has been common in the sport horse trade for some time, but is still quite unique at auctions. With this, the buyers really know what they are buying”, says Nico Witte.
Offspring of Charmeur, Ferdeaux, Governor and El Capone
This year’s collection already included some very talented and genetically interesting stallions. As a sire of KSS stallions, for instance Charmeur is represented, but also the talented El Capone. Sons of Ferdeaux, For Gribaldi, Governor, Grand Galaxy Win and Glamourdale are included in the auction, just like Gotcha Utopia, Chippendale, Sorento, Ebony, Johnson and Ferguson.
More information about the auction and videos of the stallions can be found at www.kwpn.nl/selectsale.
