Norbert Borgmann, a highly successful and well known breeder of Westfalian horses, has passed away after a tragic accident at the yard on 10 February 2018.  He was 72 years old.

The undisclosed accident happened in the stable. An emergency helicopter airlifted Borgmann to the hospital, but he unfortunately passed a short while later.

Norbert Borgmann is one of Westfalen's most acclaimed dressage and show jumping breeders. He has bred over 30 horses that have been successful at international Grand Prix level in dressage and show jumping (Acolydor, Caballero, Märchenprinz, Pontifex).

His most famous dressage products were Floriano (by Florestan), who won team bronze at the 2006 World Equestrian Games under Steffen Peters, as well as Victoria Max-Theurer's Eichendorff.

Borgmann bred over 30 licensed stallions, including the 2006 Westfalian licensing champion Estobar and the 2014 Bundeschampion Equitaris.

Borgmann developed the mare line 218 which the Dutch equestrian magazine Sport Horse Breeding has twice named the most successful dressage mare line in the world.

Norbert received the Ramzes prize from the Westfalian verband in 2002 and a Gold Medal in 2014 for his lifetime achievements in breeding.

He was still active at his home yard Hof Borgmann in Ostbevern, Germany, which is now managed by his son Stephan.
