Heinz Ahlers has taken over the baton from Thomas Casper as chair of the German Stallion Owners Society.

Casper announced in 2017 that he would step down in 2018 and at the board meeting on 7 March it was decided that Heinz Ahlers would be the newly appointed chair.

The board also appointed Dr. Kati Schöpke, who is stable managed at the Moritzburg state stud, as new board member, succeeding Matthias Görbert.

Twenty-six representatives (almost 50%) of the entire membership was present at the general assembly in Munster on 8 March 2018.

Casper of Gestut Birkhof in Donzdorf has been chair of the society for eight years.

The German Stallion Owners Society was founded to have a voice within the German Equestrian Federation. The society assisted in the reformation of the stallion performance tests in Germany as well as in the standardization of X-ray requirements for German licensings.

For 2018 the society will be working on a further development on service terms for the sale of fresh and frozen semen, as well as a further modernisation of the licensing system and fine-tuning of the performance testing.
