Sanneke Rothenberger's Grand Prix horse Deveraux OLD has passed away. The Oldenburg gelding was euthanized on 26 May 2018 after he suffered from a severe colic attack.
He was successfully operated on, but unfortunately his condition worsened and it was decided in the best interest of the horse to put him down.
Deveraux was bred by Auguste Berding and was by De Niro out of Odelia (by Rohdiamant).
Under Dutch Miranda Rongen the black gelding won the gold medal at the 2007 World Young Horse Championships in Verden. Sven Rothenberger purchased him right after Verden as a junior rider's horse for Sanneke.
Sanneke and Deveraux OLD became one of Germany's most successful youth rider pairs. They won triple gold at the 2009 European Junior Riders Championships, team gold and double silver at the 2010 European Young Riders Championships, triple gold at the 2011 European Young Riders Championships, and the title at the 2011 Young Rider World Cup Final. In 2012 they moved to Under 25 level and won the CDIO-U25 Aachen.
As of 2013 Deveraux began to struggle with injuries and he did not compete that year. In 2014 he did one CDI in Vidauban, but in 2015 he showed in several international senior Grand Prix classes. In 2016 the German selectors asked Sanneke to drop back to Under 25 level for the inaugural European Under 25 Championships in Hagen, Germany, where they won triple gold. Deveraux did his last CDI at the 2016 CDI Darmstadt, where he placed fifth in the senior Grand Prix (71.220%) and second in the Kur (75.900%).
In February 2018 the Rothenberger family announced Deveraux' retirement from sport.
