The battles for the number spot in the CDI leg of the youth division classes were tight and fierce at the sunlit 2018 CDIO Uggerhalne in Denmark on 24 - 28 May 2018.
The Equitour Aalborg drew out a massive field of Scandinavian pony, junior and young riders and the divisions were split into a Nations Cup CDIO group and a separate, bigger CDI leg. Not a single rider was able to achieve a hattrick in their age class, which shows that the competition was tough and the battles hard fought.
Two riders dominated the pony classes: home side hero Alexander Yde Helgstrand and Dutch Senna Evers. Helgstrand and the 12-year old bay mare Claire (by Notre Sac x Julio Mariner xx) captured first place in the team test (71.762%), but it was Dutch Senna Evers on routinier Majos Cannon, a 16-year old Danish sport pony by Marchi x Hassan II, who took highest honour in the individual test (71.937%) and kur to music (74.225%).
There were also two winners in the three junior riders tests. Danish Maria Mejlgaard Jensen won the team championship test aboard her 17-year old Dutch bred Uno IV (by Olivi x Nooitgedacht) on a score of 70.051% and went on to reconfirm her top spot in the individual test with 69.167%, having Swedish Sophie Ludvigsen right on her heels. Ludvigsen stakes her claim in the freestyle aboard the 8-year old Danish bred Oldenburg gelding Gorklintgaards Jericho (by Jazz) and captured the final junior trophy of the weekend on a kur score of 71.250%.
