"Future Champions 2018 was a huge success," according to host Ullrich Kasselmann, who made this obvious conclusion on the last day of this unique youth show in Hagen a.T.W. “There was such excitement from all the nations that participated, and above all, the performances that we saw here were excellent. This here is the future, the future for Horses & Dreams, and the future for the world! I must say, I do believe we have seen one or the other future Olympic athlete here."
One rider who has an Olympic medalist for a brother collected another trophy on the last day of the show. German Team rider Sönke Rothenberger’s youngest sister Semmieke Rothenberger (Bad Homburg) left no doubt about her abilities with her win in the Freestyle for Young Riders in the Almased Dressage Stadium ahead of teammate Alexa Westendarp (Wallenhorst) with Four Seasons. Josefine Hoffmann and Hoennerups Driver came in third.
Rothenberger's mare Disseration (by Don Crusador) showed an improved self carriage, but the trot work was now coming close to passage instead of collected trot.
“I felt like the warm up went much better today than it did on the other days," explained Semmieke Rothenberger following her rider, though she is confident that there is still a lot of room for improvement. “Unfortunately we couldn’t transfer that to the test in the way I would have hoped. My mare worked really hard and gave everything, but there were a few mistakes in the test from my side. I think that if I can keep my concentration over three days of competition, then I can improve a lot.”
Semmieke Rothenberger knows her way around Hagen well, and the 19-year-old loves coming to Hof Kasselmann: “I have been to Future Champions every year since 2011. It is my absolute favorite show, it is so well organized.” So its quite possible that we will see her here again next year!
The Pony Riders also had their Freestyle final on Sunday. Here, three time European champion Lucie-Anouk Baumgürtel (Nottuln) broke the 80% mark with her championship pony Massimiliano. It was however German team mate Julia Barbian on Der Kleine König who dominated the CDIO Pony division in Hagen this year, beating double European Pony Champion Baumgurtel in both the team championship and individual Test. Moritz Treffinger (Oberderdinger) with Top Queen H came in second in the Kur followed by Danish rider Alexander Yde Helgstrand on Adriano B.
