The 10-year old Oldenburg gelding San Coco di Amore has been sold to the Spanish based Finnish rider Joanna Robinson. Her trainer Ulla Salzgeber will come out of retirement to confirm the Grand Prix work in the show ring.
San Coco di Amore is bred by Klaus Schrader and was owned by Irina Dietrich. He is by San Amour out of Coco One (by Cheenook x Carprilli).
The horse was first competed at L-level i 2013 under breeder Klaus Schrader. In 2016 Eva Rainsborough took over and in 2017 Renate Gohr-Bimmel began training and showing him. This year he did some developing Grand Prix horse tests in Zeutern, Ladenburg and Babenhausen. The pair also finished 9th in the Louisdor cup qualifier held in Wiesbaden with a score of 67.209%.
San Coco di Amore has now been sold to Joanna Robinson, but the horse will go in training with Ulla Salzgeber at her yard Dressurstall Freund & Salzgeber, a stable formerly known as Reitstall am Lechfeld, in Königsbrunn near Augsburg, Germany.
In September 2017 Salzgeber announced that she will quit competing horses and focus on training students, but she has had a change of heart and San Coco di Amore makes her want to put her shadbelly back on. Salzgeber recently had Slovenian judge Maja Stukelj over at her yard for a mock judging of her and her students.
"Coco has a great walk, trot and canter. His rideability is very, very good. He is sensitive without becoming too hot and always reacting very good on the aids. And the piaffe and passage already are very good. He has very great potential, but is not totally “ready”, but he has all the potential in him," Salzgeber told Eurodressage. " I think he will even do better in a couple of months. I’m planing to ride him in Kreuth to see how his progress works in the show arena. I think Joanna has got a great horse and I will help as much as possible to make further plans work."
Joanna Robinson made her international show debut this year at the 2018 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, where she placed Fred the Red 26th in the consolation finals for 6-year olds. San Coco di Amore is Robinson's 2020 Tokyo Olympic hopeful.
"it’s too early to set any specific goals. I will train him together with my trainer and see how far the journey will take us," Robinson told Eurodressage about her brand new partnership with San Coco di Amore. "Competition plans are still undecided. He’ll be my horse and be following me here to Spain shortly."
