The bright bay colt Kattenau was named the champion of the 2018 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster, Germany, on Sunday 21 October 2018.

Thirty-eight stallions were presented at the 2018 Trakehner licensing and the committee approved 13 of them. Four were made premium stallion.

Kattenau is by Honoré du Soir out of Kiss Me Kate (by Perechlest). He is bred by Kurt and Michael Weippert.  At the auction following the licensing, Kattenau sold for 270,000 euro to Austrian Hans-Jörg Gasser after a bidding duel with Scandinavians. Gasser is also the owner of Hofrat and the young colt will be based in Germany at the Galmbacher stud.

The reserve champion is Instagram (by Schwarzgold x Vivus). Bred by Jörg Bustorff and purchased as a foal by Austrian Adrian Gasser at the 2016 Trakehner Elite Foal Auction for 18,500 euro, Instagram impressed in trot and canter but did not walk as well as Kattenau. This favourite of the public sold to Taiwan for 160,000 euro.
