American young rider Megan Peterson received a yellow card at the 2019 CDI-W Wellington on 25 - 27 January 2019.
The 18-year old Peterson competed her own 14-year old Dutch warmblood Amoretto (by Sandreo x Osmium) in the Young Riders Team Championship and Individual test, placing third with 67.402% and fourth with 66.529%.
According to the FEI the incident happened before the competition, on 24 January 2019, and the FEI listed the yellow card for "Incorrect behaviour."
Peterson trains with Jessica Ransehousen at Blue Hill Farm. Eurodressage contacted Peterson, who declined to comment, but a Blue Hill Farm representative was willing to share that, "Megan was just trying to simply pass her trunk to the horse transportation company and cut the bottom zip tie of the fencing to do so. There wasn't anything malicious about the act. She is a young rider and this has been an upsetting incident for her."
The rider's mother stated on Facebook that the incident happened after the show, on Saturday 26 January 2019, as they was packing to leave the show.
An FEI spokesperson told Eurodressage: "FEI Officials work onsite at all FEI events and one of their roles is to make sure the FEI rules are not only respected but also enforced. FEI Officials in all disciplines use the disciplinary measures available to them, such as verbal warnings and yellow warning cards, to penalise infringements of those rules. The infringement was dealt with onsite through the correct procedure and the athlete was given a yellow warning card by the Chief Steward for incorrect behaviour."
Yellow cards are quite an exception in dressage. In 2018 there were three cases of yellow cards: two for inappropriorate behaviour, one for abuse of horse. Show jumping had 28 yellow cards in 2018, endurance 33.
