German based South African dressage rider Samantha Foley spent the night of 7 April 2019 in the hospital after falling off her new ride, Lukas, during a schooling session.
"I broke three ribs but I’ll be okay, just rest for now," Foley told Eurodressage.
"Lukie and I had a miscommunication but we are fine and I still love him," she joked. "And it was going so well! He is going great. I just couldn’t sit his buck."
Foley is based in Rulle, Germany, where she trains with Australian Briana Burgess. She acquired the 14-year old Bavarian warmblood Lukas as her Grand Prix schoolmaster last December.
After the fall Foley was brought to the St. Marien hospital in Lüdinghausen, where she was diagnosed with three broken ribs. She had to spend the night to make sure her lung wouldn't collapse.
Foley is in great spirits though and expects a speedy recovery.
