Up and coming American young dressage rider Katherine Mathews dominated the Young Riders division at the 2019 CDI-W Del Mar aboard her imported Hanoverian stallion Solière. The budding duo took out two of three victories in her age category.
The Dressage Week at the 74th Annual Del Mar National Horse Show was held in Del Mar, California, on 26 - 28 April 2019. The show is a CDI-W, International Dressage Competition, as well as hosts classes for amateurs, Juniors and Young Riders in the CDI-J and CDI-Y. Top horse and rider combinations vie for prize money, USEF National Qualifying recognition and FEI World ranking points.
The San Marcos, CA, based Katherine Mathews, 15, dominated the Young Rider division winning both the Young Rider Prix St Georges Team test with 67.353% and the Young Rider Individual test with a 65.539% on her new mount, Solière (by Sandro Hit x Donnerhall).
The 15-year old licensed Hanoverian stallion is bred by Sandra Neff and was purchased from successful music producer and DJ Paul Van Dyk through Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany. Peridot Equestrian LLC acquired the stallion and imported him from Germany to the US in December of last year.
Solière has had a very successful show career so far, most recently showing in Germany in Prix St Georges and Intermediare I. His career was started by his first trainer and rider, German young horse specialist Eva Möller. Solière and Möller won silver at the 2010 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden with a final mark of 9.12.
Solière competed at the prestigious Bundenchampionate - the German Young Horse Championships - in 2008, 2009 and 2010, twice placing fifth and earning silver as a 6-year old in 2010. Spanish Olympic team member Borja Carrascosa took Solière up to FEI level and campaigned the handsome stallion at small tour level at high profile CDI's in Perl, Hagen, and Fritzens.
Mathews and Solière, who have only a few months under their belts as a new team and are coached by Marie Medosi, also won the CDI-YR Individual test at the 2019 Adequan West Coast Dressage Festival III in March with a 66.118%.
