American Grand Prix rider Susan Dutta said goodbye to her international Grand Prix horse, Westside Lady, which she competed in the 2000s. The Hanoverian mare was 27 years old.

The 1992 born Westside Lady was by Westbury out of Lomba (by Lombard x Censor) and bred by Diedrich Matthies. Her official name in Germany was "westsidelady" but she has competed under the spellings Westside Lady and West Side Lady.

The liver chestnut mare had a successful career as a youngster in Germany. At the time she held a historic score record for the mare performance test in Germany. Under Andrea Müller-Kersten she won the 1995 Bundeschampionate as a 3-year old.  In 1996 Sigi Behr competed her as a 4-year old. Westside Lady's full brother Westside Dream finished sixth at the 1996 Bundeschampionate under Hans-Peter Klaus.

Americans Robin and Bill Weiss of Spring Creek Equestrian Center in Jackson Holen Wyoming bought her for 80,000 euro  at the 1996 Hanoverian elite auction in Verden. Coached by Janet Foy, Westside Lady was first competed by Kris Montgomery from 1997 till 2000. Montgomery took her up to small tour level after which she was sold to Tim Dutta as a sixth anniversary present and future ride for his wife Susan in 2001.

Dutta made her show debut on Westside Lady in 2002 and became the U.S. Small Tour Champions in the summer. In 2003 they represent the U.S.A. at the 2003 Pan American Games

There were no shows in 2004 but in 2005 they moved up to Grand Prix level and competed at CDI's in Wellington and Raleigh. 2006 was their last year in the show ring with the 2006 Palm Beach Derby as their final competition.

Westside Lady spent her retirement at Rigbie Farm where she passed away.

"This beautiful, powerful and most of all classy mare was a winner her entire life. I was bless to have her in my life," said Dutta. "I am grateful to have had a great competitive career with Fergie. I am happy to say she did have many years of lovey retirement at Rigbie Farms."

"We nicknamed her Fergie at the time because she was a true red head and also Fergie in England was always getting into a lot of trouble and it just seemed to fit," Janet Foy explained.
