Beatriz Ferrer-Salat, Spain's most successful Olympic dressage rider, has been successfully operated on following her riding accident a week ago.
On Friday 24 January 2020 Spanish Olympian Beatriz Ferrer-Salat sustained two fractures in her pubic and tail bone after falling off a horse which spooked and bolted during a hack.
She was first transported to the hospital in Sant Celoni and then sent to the Hospital de Sant Pau, where the diagnosis of a fractured pubic and tail bone was confirmed.
On the morning of 30 January Beatriz was operated on to stabilize the pubic fracture.
"The surgery has lasted longer than expected, since the pubic fracture was worse than expected," said Ferrer's press officer. "They had to put two fixing plates and it all went very well. The doctors are happy with the result. Now it is time to rest and gradually regain strength."
The Spanish Equestrian Federation had listed Ferrer-Salat with two horses (Delgado, Esperiance) on the High Performance Group from which the Spanish Olympic team for 2020 Tokyo would be picked. It is uncertain if Beatriz will have recovered in time to compete in the selection trials.
