The KWPN bred and Oldenburg licensed breeding stallion Ibiza has changed riders, again. He is back in training with Emmelie Scholtens in The Netherlands.
The 7-year old Ibiza is a KWPN bred stallion by Desperado x Jazz x Contango. He is bred by Luc Boogert and owned by German Vasco Janke.
Ibiza sold as a foal for 72,000 euro at the 2013 Midden-Nederland Foal Auction to Jan Vink. He was licensed at the 2015 Oldenburg Stallion licensing in Vechta, presented by Dutch horse dealer Ad Valk, and sold at auction for 170,000 euro. The horse was apparently bought back by Ad Valk, who then sold Ibiza privately to German Vasco Janke.
Ibiza did his 14-day Stallion Suitability Test in Adelheidsdorf in the spring of 2016 and scored 8.0. At the 2017 German Stallion Sport Test in Munster, he got 8.73 points.
Competition Start with Scholtens
In 2017 Janke moved Ibiza in training with Emmelie Scholtens for him to be competed in the 2017 Pavo Cup, in which he finished fifth in the finals.
He also competed in the first qualifier of the 2017-2018 KWPN Stallion Competition circuit, but the stallion bit his tongue and was excused from the test. He never competed again on the KWPN stallion competition circuit and is not KWPN approved.
Brunkhorst Goes to Ermelo
Juliane Brunkhorst took over the ride in 2018 and via the Dutch WCYH selection trials she qualified him for the 2018 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, where they finished 6th in the Finals. Ibiza then disappeared from the scene for more than a year.
Brunkhorst and Janke stated that the qualification process for Dutch team selection for the 2019 World Championships was too difficult, with too much travelling. However, the stallion also did not show in Germany. After a 13-month show break he made his come back on 27 September 2019 in Medingen where he won an M-level dressage horse test.
Back with Scholtens
At the beginning of January 2020 Ibiza was picked up and trailered back to Emmelie Scholtens in The Netherlands. She will continue preparing the chestnut stallion for FEI level. Scholtens announced the return of the stallion on her Facebook account.
"His owners asked me if I wanted to train him again and I didn't have to think twice," Emmelie told Eurodressage. "I'm happy he's back and now we have to become a combination again."
Emmelie said that she hopes to qualify him for the 2020 World Championships in the 7-year old division.
"We'll probably go for the World Championship qualifiers, but most important is that he'll soon be able to be competitive in sport again," said Emmelie, adding, 'so I don't have a concrete show plan for him."
