Former German junior rider team member Marlene Sieverding has acquired a Grand Prix hopeful, the 12-year old mare Savona.

Savona is a 2008 born Brandenburger mare by San Amour out of Ebony (by Ex'pose x Levantos x Brast). She is bred by Marco Fischer.

She was first competed as a 5-year old by Ulrike Neumann. In 2014 she was partnered with Sebastian Kampmann, who took her from L-level to M by the end of 2015.

Savona moved to Denmark to be sold at Helgstrand Dressage in 2016. In 2018 the mare resurfaced, having been sold to Finnish Grand Prix rider Elisabet Ehrnrooth. The pair did one CDI in Ypaja in March 2018 and scored 62% at small tour level.

In the spring of 2019 Savona resurfaced at Patrik Kittel's sales yard in Germany and was competed by Swedish Malin Nilsson at Grand Prix level between June and September 2019.

Savona then moved again back north to Helgstrand Dressage in the autumn, where Marlene Sieverding tried her out and purchased her.

New Hope for Marlene Sieverding

The 19-year old Marlene Sieverding began her international career on ponies with Doubtless (by Don't Worry x Niklas I) in 2016.

Two years later she returned to the CDI arena as a junior rider aboard Furst Levantino (by Furst Romancier x Sandro hit). Having shown at the Aachen Dressage Days and the CDIO-J Hagen, Marlene got selected on the German team and competed at the 2018 European Junior Riders Championships in Fontainebleau, where they got team gold and and placed sixth individually. It was the pair's last international show.

Sieverding went on to win bronze at the 2018 German Junior Riders Championships and continued to compete Furst Levantino at national small tour level in Germany in 2019 until the early summer, when Furst Levantino sustained an injury.

"Furst Levantino had to be a on a break, because he injured himself at the qualifier for the German Championships," Marlene told Eurodressage. "At the moment we are in the build-up phase, so we are taking our time."

Sieverding, who trains with Dirk Heyse, has obtained a second horse which can take her from Young Riders through U25 to Grand Prix.

"Sanova is now two weeks with us," said Marlene. "When we started our search for a new horse we drove to Denmark and tried the horses at Helgstrand Dressage. It really, really clicked with Savona and then we decided on her."
