Guess Who!

Eurodressage posted a quiz "Guess the Grand Prix Horse" on its Instagram Stories account on Saturday 25 April 2020 and it was a massive success.

Ten photos of young horses competing at the 2004 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden were posted and a multiple choice was given with the names of Grand Prix horses. Readers had to guess which youngster was a future Grand Prix horse.

The quiz was very popular and many followers gave it a try. Although we did not check all results, we noticed straight away one person scoring 10/10: Dutch Grand Prix rider Hans Peter Minderhoud!

Hans Peter was at the 2004 World Championships himself competing Florencio and they won gold. We didn't feature his horse (as Florencio never made it to Grand Prix) and we didn't want to make it that easy, but Minderhoud clearly recognized his competitors at that show 16 years ago !

Foto Tyme (by Florestan x Delphi) - Shown in Verden by Canadian Evi Strasser. The horse sold to Great Britain and was renamed "Hiscox Artemis". He became Richard Davison's 2012 Olympic Games horse. Sold to Philine von Bremen as a schoolmaster.

Florianus (by Florestan x Damenstolz) - Shown in Verden by Gillian Duke. Sold to the U.S.A and competed there at international GP level by Belinda Nairn and Catherine Malone

Desperados (by De Niro x Wolkenstein II) - Shown in Verden by Holga Finken. OK, he didn't compete in the World Championships but in the Hanoverian young horse championships held at the same time. He was 3 then. Went on to be Kristina Sprehe's 2012 and 2016 Olympic medal winning horse

Scandic (by Solos Carex x Amiral) - Shown in Verden by Dutch Remy Bastings, went on to win kur bronze with Patrik Kittel at the 2011 European Dressage Championships in Rotterdam

Wizard (by Weltmeyer x Classiker) - Shown in Verden by Belgian Stefan van Ingelgem. Went on to become Adrienne Lyle's 2012 London Olympic Games' partner

Wie Atlantico (by Wie Weltmeyer x Rondo) - Shown in Verden by Spaniard Enrique Brewak. Went on to be an Spanish Olympic team reserve with Juan Matute Sr and and international Grand Prix horse for Fiona Bigwood and Anders Dahl

Silvano (by Rubinstein x Cocktail) - Shown in Verden by Swedish Gunilla Bystrom, went on to compete at international Grand Prix level by Patrik Kittel and Dorothee Schneider

Fazzino (by Florestan x Rivellino xx) - Shown in Verden by German Arnd Erben, went on to become the Under 25 horse for Belgian Julie de Deken, who won the inaugural Under 25 classes at the 2010 CDIO Aachen

Daianira van de Helle (by Dream of Glory x Ritual) - Shown in Verden by Belgian Vicky Smits. She trained and competed the mare from young horse to international Grand Prix level. A legal battle and injury ended the career of both horse and rider. Smits has not competed at a CDI since Daianira
