Danish Grand Prix rider and trainer Thomas Dolleris Larsen is showing very slow improvement after suffered a brain bleed on 17 May 2020.

Dolleris is hospitalized at Skejby Hospital and was in a medically induced coma.

Thomas runs a training stable AT Dressage in Denmark together with his partner Anemette Holm Pedersen  He was Norwegian junior-young riders team trainer from 2009 till 2014. The last horse he competed at international Grand Prix level was Don Alfredo (by Don Frederico x Woermann) in April 2014.

The 48-year old suffered from a brain bleed a few years ago and in May collapsed from a second one. He underwent surgery to repair an arteriovenous malformation that was detected in his brain.

A day after the operation, Dolleris was in highly critical condition because he developed pneumonia and the oxygen supply to his body and head were insufficient. Fortunately Thomas pulled through and after two weeks of having been in a deep artificial coma, the doctors began to slowly reduced the sedation.

His wife Anemette posted an update on Facebook on Sunday 7 June:

"Last Wednesday they turned off the sedation and it went well. On Thursday, Thomas had a CT-scan and they saw there was a blood clot in the right side of his brain. The doctor thinks he can't use the left side now and it will require some rehabilitation. On Saturday he was extubated and luckily it went well."

She continued, "The doctor can't say how long he needs it, but now he can start exercising the swallow reflex. They have removed the drain from his head and hope to close it after the scan tomorrow. We visited him this evening and we got some movement from his right hand and he blinked a little."
