The German pony team for the 2020 European Youth Championships in Budapest is known. After two days of selection trials in Warendorf, German team trainer Connie Endres has made her pick.

Due to Covid-19, the 2020 edition of the European Pony Championships have moved to Budapest as part of the consolidated Youth Championships on 9 - 30 August. The Ponies go last on the final week of August.

The German pony team has held a record number of team gold medals at the European Pony Championships, but they lost team gold for silver in 2015 (Great Britain won gold) and last year dropped to team bronze with Denmark taking team gold.

Selection Event in Warendorf

As all CDI's this spring were cancelled, Germany decided on hosting a two-selection event in Warendorf to which the best pairs were invited after team candidates proved form at the first CDI post corona in Mariakalnok, Hungary.

The classes were judged by national judges and it was closed to the public, with no live streamed offered for spectators who were interested to follow the riding and scoring.

Rose Oatley and Daddy Moon were excused for the selection event in Warendorf as the pony suffers from a skin rash.

On the first day in Warendorf Lucie-Anouk Baumgürtel and Nasdaq FH took the lead with 78.59% well ahead of Shona Benner on Der kleine Sunnyboy WE, who won bronze at the 2019 European Pony Championships. Baumgurtel, who in 2019 chose to go for the junior division, dropped back to ponies with a new star to ride and her choice is paying off. Paulina von Wulffen and the 2018 European pony champion Top Queen H were third with 73.19%/

Today, Saturday, 11 pony pairs rode their second test and Lucie-Anouk was back in front with 80%. Shona Benner landed second place with 76.585% and Antonia Roth on Daily Pleasure placed third with 75.406.
