Burburry, a Dutch Rio Paralympic team horse and current able bodied Children's ride, has been sold to Italy.
Burberry is a 14-year old Dutch warmblood mare by Lord Loxley out of Punulda (by Kelvin). He is bred by Bob Tenwolde.
Rio Paralympic Medalist
Initially listed with the FEI as owned by Demi Vermeulen and then listed as owned by Gert and Patricia de Graaf in partnership with Vermeulen, the bay mare made her international show debut under Dutch paralympian Demi Vermeulen in 2016.
Competing in Grade II, Demi and Burberry competed at the CPEDI's in Doha, Deauville, Mannheim and Roosendaal to get selected on the Dutch paralympic team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. There they won team bronze and individual silver.
Children's Ride
After Rio, the 1,57 m standing mare was offered for sale and ended up moving to horse dealer Jonna Schelstraete. The ride was allocated to her daughter Amber Schelstraete.
The new duo made its international show debut in the children division at the 2018 CDIO Compiegne. The pair competed consistently at that level at CDI's from 2018 through 2020 in Le Mans, Joosland, Saumur, Exloo and Lier. At the 2019 Dutch Children Championships they were fourth overall. The coveted Dutch team place for the European Children Championships was never achieved. They were first reserves in 2019. In the late spring of 2020 the pair made its national show debut at junior level in Holland.
Sold to Italy
Schelstraete has now sold to KWPN mare to Italian para rider Erica Barozzi.
The Italian made her international show debut in 2013 on the former CIC eventing horse Tarco (by Corrado-Fly x Ruby) at Grade III level. In 2018 she took over the ride on the Brazilian Lusitano Zizifly Interagro from Argentinian Patricio Guglialmelli Lynch and moved to Grade IV with him.
