2020 Hungarian Dressage Championships

Pony rider Hanna Hoffer, children rider Botond Koszta, junior rider Fanni Ambach, young rider Jazmin Yom Tov, Under 25 rider Reka Zengo and senior Grand Prix rider Anita Schmidt became the winners of the 2020 Hungarian Dressage Championships.

Originally the Hungarian Nationals were to be held the first weekend of September, but the event kept being moving date and location. In the end the Championships took place at the national equestrian centre in Budapest on 9 - 11 October 2020.

Youth Riders

Six combinations competed in the pony division and it was routinier Hanna Hoffer who topped the board on the 12-year old German riding pony stallion Macciato (by The Breas My Mobility x Bogenschutze). She won all three rounds to total 204.608 points with 70.787% in the team test, 71.524% in the individual and 72.297% in the kur to music. Hoffer still has one year to go on ponies and she has already made the transition to junior level with Sunny Girl and French Kiss, competing on the Hungarian junior team at the 2020 Europeans instead of on ponies. The silver went to Kira Major on the 9-year old Rhinelander mare Davida (by FS Don't Worry x GS Golden Highlight) on 208.116 points, while Rita Nagy and the 15-year old Dutch Welsh pony Dano's Miracle KS (by Bodo x Verona's Bo-Gi) got bronze with 201.450 points.

Eight combinations contested the children's class and it was Botond Koszta and his 13-year old Hanoverian bred Bicolor (by Brentano II x Lauries Crusador xx) that scored the gold medal on 220.171 points. Botond was consistent throughout the weekend and scored 72.625% in the preliminary test, 73.046% in the team test and 74.500% in the individual. Nora Korodi and the 12-year old Hanoverian Laurin (by Laurentio x Sunny Boy) got silver with 217.945%, while Lucia Lokos and the 11-year old Westfalian mare Bellamy (by Belissimo M x Furst Heinrich) returned home with bronze with 213.677 points.

Jazmin Yom Tov and For Joy
The junior division had the most combinations of all with 12 at the starting line. Fanni Ambach and the 12-year old Oldenburg gelding Schufro Armani (by Jimmie Choo SEQ x Rosario) were undefeated and got gold with 218.539 points. She was the only one to score above seventy percent in all three rounds. She got 71.576% in the team test, 71.588% in the individual and 75.375% in the Kur. Zsofia Lazar and her equine partner of 2 years, the 12-year old Bavarian mare Balerina Royal (by Herzensdieb x Rubin Royal), finished with silver on 211.829 points, while Dalma Jakab and the 16-year old Wurttemberger gelding Da Felice (by Diamond Hit x Regazzoni) got bronze with 210.910 points.

Six Young Riders battled it out for three podium places and it was Jazmin Yom Tov who aced the division with the 7-year old Westfalian gelding For Joy (by Feedback x Donnerbube II) which Jazmin also competed at the 2019 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo. The pair was unrivalled and cruised to victory with 68.471% in the team test, 70.765% in the individual and 73.625% in the Kur to Music. After earning the junior title in 2018 and 2019, Yom Tov added the 2020 Young Riders' title to her tally. She also went on to win the small tour Championship on her U25 horse Bojengel the same weekend. Krisztina Rapi and the 15-year old Hanoverian mare Dancing Queen BC (by Don Crusador x Wenzel) got the silver medal with 202.939 points, while Panka Nagy and the 9-year old KWPN bred Guilty (by Sir Donnerhall x United) landed the bronze with 202.558 points.

Grand Prix Classes

Two Championships were contested at Grand Prix level: the under 25 division and the senior category.

Three combinations rode in the Under 25 division, but the country's three highest scoring U25 riders were not present (Yom Tov on Zodinde, Pachl on Donna Frederika, Szoke Toth on Qatar). This left plenty of room for Reka Zengo and her 10-year old Westfalian Ribery (by Riccio x Renoir) to go for gold. The pair scored 66.029% in the Intermediaire II, 65.692% in the Short Grand Prix and 69.415% in the Kur to Music. She stayed almost 10 percent ahead of silver medal winner Luca Gyorsok on Ayrton Senna van de Vannahoeve, a 10-year old Belgian bred Westfalian by Apache x Abner. The bronze was for Martin Domjan on his 17-year old Hanoverian gelding Right Now (by Romancero H x Weltregent H).

Anita Schmidt and Limitless
In the senior division, Hungary's individual rider at the 2019 European Dressage Championships finally had her national moment to shine and took home the gold medal, trophy and title. Anita Schmidt and the 10-year old Holsteiner Limitless (by Larimar x Conteur) improved throughout the weekend. Trained by Fritz Gaulhofer, Schmidt was third in the Grand Prix (69.265%), and then won the Special (71.00%) and Kur (76.185%) to finish on a winning total of 216.450%.  Breathing down her neck, however, was 2017 Hungarian European Championship team rider Aniko Losonczy with her new Grand Prix ride, Dior S, a 12-year old KWPN gelding by Spielberg x Florestan. Losonczy and Dior S won the Grand Prix with 70.441%, and was second in the Special (70.478%) and Kur (75.250%) to total 216.169 points. Csaba Szokola and his 12-year old Hungarian bred Enying (by Balou de Rouet x Acorn) slotted in third overall with 211.861 points. They scored 69,706% in the Grand Prix, 69,130% in the Special and 73,025% in the Kur.
