The 2021 Bundeschampionate - the German young horse championships in dressage, show jumping, eventing and driving - will be held in August instead of September in 2021.
The Bundeschampionate are hosted at the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf, Germany, and traditionally take place the first week of September.
This year, due to corona, the event was split into weeks with the jumpers first at the end of August and the dressage horses the first week of September. No audience was allowed, which meant that the dressage classes were held in the show jumping stadium. The move and lack of crowd was highly appreciated by the horses who appeared more at ease in the bigger, quieter stadium.
In 2021 the "BuCha" will be held on 11 - 15 August 2021.
"The earlier date is because at the moment the 2021 European Championships will be held on home turf the first two weeks of September in Riesenback and Hagen," said Bucha director Markus Scharmann. "The last weekend of August conflicts with the World Young Dressage Horse Championships and a later date won't work because of the World Young Show Jumping Horse Championships."
Scharmann hopes to welcome the masses of crowds back to the 2021 edition of his event, but they are discussing changing the stabling area as well as the space around the arenas to create more room for the horses.
