On 28 November 2020 Tristan Tucker is hosting a brand-new show: TRT Live Worldwide that can be watched and enjoyed by thousands of equestrians and horse lovers all over the world.

How is this even possible, during this time of lockdown and canceled events? Here’s the crux: it’s a virtual event. And it’s not just a normal livestream or webinar, no, it’s something much larger and ambitious. We spoke to Tristan about his new show and what we can expect from it.

Tristan Tucker:  “Every year we organize ‘TRT Live’ in a couple of countries. It’s an event in which I show demonstrations with my own horses, but also with horses that have specific problems. Last spring we were set to host TRT Live in the UK, but due to COVID-19 we had to reschedule. We had hoped that everything would be ‘back to normal’ in the fall, but in the end we had to cancel the show and notify the 1,400 ticket holders. Rescheduling again just didn’t seem fit.”

“After that, we sat down and brainstormed about what we could do. Is there a way to inspire people and to give them the feeling that we’re in this together while keeping it safe for everyone? And then we thought: why not project everyone watching on the arena’s walls? And then I don’t just mean their picture, I mean their live feed from their own living room. A giant video conference where everyone can see me and I can see them.”

Technical complexity

A videoconference that broadcasts thousands of people on the walls isn’t that simple. To assure that everything is running smoothly, Tristan, together with his business partner and co-owner Conny Loonstra, contacted a professional company that also arranges livestreams for large events such as the festival Tomorrowland.

Tristan: “We’re going to do something that we’ve never done before and we’re doing it at a grand scale. If 10,000 horse lovers from all over the world are going to join this event, it’s incredibly important that everything is technically in order. Aside from that the demonstrations should go well, we’re also facing new aspects like having a good connection, proper sound, showing the right footage, etc. To minimize all risks we also get support from a special team from Zoom, the software we’re going to use. That team also provided support during large events like the Emmy Awards, so they sure know what they’re doing.”

Inspire and connect

Tristan’s focus is fully geared at TRT Live. “I notice that the idea of inspiring and connecting people is really giving me a massive energy boost. Bringing people together like that is invaluable in times like these. All other events and shows are canceled, but that just makes it even more important to stay in touch and motivate one another to keep on getting the best out of yourself and your horse. It’s bound to be an amazing, interactive show with interesting horses and guest trainers such as Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Warwick Schiller.”
