The qualification season for the 2021 Bundeschampionate kicked off in Schenefeld, Germany, on Sunday 2 May 2021. No less than 36 shows across Germany have been marked as a "BuCha" qualifiers for dressage horses. Schenefeld was the first one on the list.
The 5-year old Rod Laver and the 6-year old Escalla became the winners of the Schenefeld qualifier.
5-YO: Rod Laver
Named after the famous Australian tennis player from the 1960s and 1970s, the 5-year old Hanoverian stallion by Rock Forever x Fidertanz topped the board in the L-level test, besting a field of 16 combinations. Ridden by Lena Stegemann, the bay stallion owned by Frank Becker scored 9 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 7.5 for submission and 8.5 for general impression to finished on a winning total of 8.5.
Stegemann also captured second place with Felix-Ferdinand Becker's Hanoverian stallion Liam Neeson (by Libertad x Sir Oldenburg). He scored 8.5 for walk and trot, 8.0 for canter and submission and 8.5 for general impression to total 8.3 points.
The pair tied in second place with Jacob Schenk aboard his parents' Hanoverian mare Barcelona (by Borsalino x Danone I). She scored 8.5 for walk, 8 for trot and canter and 8.5 for submission and general impression.
The class was judged by Ralph Schmidt, Heidi Dörler, and Klaus Storbeck.
6-YO: Escalla
In the 6-year old dressage horse class Yvonne Reiser and the Oldenburg mare Escalla (by Escolar x Dimaggio) aced the class against 12 other competitors. Judges Gabriele von Appen, Heidi Dörler, and Klaus Storbeck rewarded Escalla, who is owned by Sahlmann & Schmitz, with 8.5's across the board: for walk, trot, canter, submission and general impression. Therefore, they won with 8.5.
Following in the distance were two pairs in second place on 8.0. Markus von Holdt rode the Holsteiner gelding Quiraz ABN (by Quaterback x Carpaccio) to 8.0 for walk and canter, 8.5 for trot, 7.5 for submission and 8.0 for general impression.
Eike Bewerungen also finished second with Heinz Ahler's Oldenburg gelding Bakarigold OLD (by Belissimo M x Bretton Woods). This pair received 7.5 for walk, 8.5 for trot, and 8 for canter, submission and general impression.
