The Swiss Equestrian Federation has announced that Estelle Wettstein has been nominated to represent Switzerland as an individual at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The selection committee of Swiss Olympic has followed the recommendation of the dressage selection committee of the Swiss NF.

The 24-year old Wettstein will be taking her 13-year old Oldenburg mare West Side Story to Tokyo. She fulfilled the Swiss Olympic selection criteria at the CDI Achleiten.

Wettstein is an example of a rider who travelled through the system, representing her country from ponies through juniors and young riders with finally the Under 25 division before moving into the senior category at her young age.

"Since I was little this has been my goal, to represent Switzerland at the Olympics," Wettstein commented. "I can hardly believe it that this dream will now be fulfilled. I also want to thank Birgit Wientzek-Pläge, who achieved the individual slot for Switzerland (in 2019)."

Wettstein will be accompanied by team captain Evelyne Niklaus. Team vet Christoph Kühnle will fly with the horse to Tokyo.

The reserve spot has been allocated to Antonella Joannou and her 16-year old Dandy de la Roche. She will join Wettstein in quarantine in Aachen.
