The starting order for the Grand Prix Special - the team medal competition - at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo has been published.
Twenty-four riders from eight different teams will be competition for a podium place. The eight nations were decided by the highest team scores in the Grand prix of all three riders per team combined.
Peculiar Starting Order
The starting order for the GP Special is quite peculiar as the riders are divided into two groups and the first two groups will go by reverse order of the team ranking. The 8th placed team from the Grand Prix will start first.
The order of the last group is not yet known. This order will be decided during a 60 minute break and will depend on the provisional ranking of the teams after two groups.
So the third rider of the 8th placed team after two rounds will go first, the 7th placed team will go second, etc.
Typhoon Nepartak
It will be interesting to see how the team medal competition will be affected by Typhoon Nepartak who is making landfall tomorrow. Heavy rain and wind as well as the possibility for lightning are forecast and could seriously affect competition conditions at the Baji Koen equestrian centre.
