German Rose Oatley secured the individual test gold medal at the 2021 European Pony Championships in Strzegom, Poland on Saturday 14 August 2021.
Sixty-three combinations contested the individual test on Friday and Saturday 13 and 14 August as the group was split into two with the majority of riders competing on Friday. A smaller group started on Saturday morning and the winner of the class was amongst them.
After spearheading Germany to team gold on a world record score of 82,629% in the team test, the 14-year old Lütjensee based Oatley also won the individual test. Judges Paula Nysten (FIN), Eduard De Wolff Van Westerrode (NED), Agnieszka Majewska (POL), Ulrike Nivelle (GER) and Marietta Almasy (FRA) rewarded young Oatley's ride on the 11-year old Rhinelander Daddy Moon (by Daddy Cool x Capri Moon) with 82.270%, staying just shy of their second world record score. They were unable to beat the individual test record of 82.351% set by Lucie-Anouk Baumgürtel on Nasdaq at last year's European Pony Championships in Pilisjaszfalu, Hungary. Four of five judges had placed Oatley first, one of them had them third. Rose's marks ranged from 80.000% to a whopping 85.811%.
Rose's team mate Antonia Roth and the 10-year old stallion Daily Pleasure (by HB Daylight x Dressman) scored the silver medal on an 81.027% score, a personal best which she rode on Friday. Last year Roth had bronze in this class at the 2020 Euros;
Denmark's Sophia Obel Jorgensen and the 2019 European Pony Champion Adriano B, a 15-year old gelding by De Angelo B x Flying Dream owned by Helgstrand Dressage, ended up with bronze on 79.676%. Her individual marks ranged from 78.108% to 82.297%.
Germany's Julie Schmitz-Heinen saw herself boosted to a fourth place in the individual test thanks to an 82.973% from French judge Marietta Almasy. Her four colleagues all had the pair at 76%. Danish Cornelia Munch Sinding and Terbofen Charico (by Charivari) completed the top five with 74.405% Her marks ranged from 71.351% (16th place) to 76.486% (6th).
