Charlotte Dujardin has confirmed to British equestrian magazine Horse & Hound that she is aiming for the World Cup series with Mount St. John Freestyle.
The 12-year old Hanoverian mare, owned by Emma Blundell, missed out on the 2021 Olympic Games and 2021 European Championships due to an injury. In her stead Dujardin took her own and Renai Hart's Gio to Tokyo and Hagen and won team and individual Olympic bronze and European team silver and kur bronze with him.
Mount St. John Freestyle (by Fidermark x Donnerhall) stayed at home and has been recovering. Before the Olympics Blundell communicated that Freestyle has "not maintained sufficient fitness to cope with the long travel and extreme climate required to perform to her best."
Freestyle for World Cup
Dujardin now disclosed that she is aiming for the World Cup series with her
“Freestyle is at home in my stables and she’s really good. Hopefully I will do the World Cup series with her next year,” Charlotte told Horse & Hound.
The decorated British Olympian, however, did not specify which show will be their first.
2021-2021 Western European League World Cup Series
Ten shows are currently still surviving on the 2021-2021 Western European League World cup calendar. The CDI-W Stuttgart in November and CDI-W Salzburg in December have already dropped out due to corona restrictions which make an indoor event not financially viable.
The Western European League kicks off in Herning (DEN) on 20 - 24 October, and then moves to Lyon (27 - 31 October), Madrid (25 - 27 October), London Excel (14 - 20 December) and Mechelen (26 - 30 December).
Four qualifiers are planned in 2022: Amsterdam (27 - 30 January), Neumunster (17 - 20 February), Gothenburg (24 - 27 February) and 's Hertogenbosch (10 - 13 March).
The Finals will be held in Leipzig on 6 - 10 April 2022.
