Frank Kemperman to Retire as CHIO Aachen Show Director

Frank Kemperman (66) will retiring from his position as show director of the CHIO Aachen as well as stepping  down from the board of directors at the end of September 2022. He will be succeeded by Philip Erbers.

The Lanaken (BEL) based Kemperman has worked as Executive Director and Chairman of CHIO Aachen, the biggest and most prestigious equestrian facility and show grounds in the world, since 1993.  Kemperman has reached the official retirement age and will be waving Aachen goodbye.

“It was and still is a wonderful time with the CHIO. Aachen is my heart, my life and I am convinced that Philip will complement the Executive Board of the ALRV excellently,” said Kemperman.

Renaissance Man

Kemperman's relentless commitment and stamina to his job are qualities praised by all.

Aside from managing Aachen, he was also chair of the FEI Dressage Committee from 2009-2021.

Horse event organization runs in the family. Frank began as a show manager in 1979, was the stadium manager at the 2000 Olympic Games on Sydney and closely involved in the organization of the World Equestrian Games in The Hague 1994, Jerez 2002 and Aachen 2006.

 Frank's son Joris is continuing the family passion. He has directed the World Young horse Championships in Ermelo for last four editions (2016 - 2019). 

Succession

The 38-year old Philip Erbers will be succeeding Kemperman at the end of September 2022.

“Philip Erbers is our ideal solution. He is very familiar with the show, knows the structures and is the right person to lead the CHIO Aachen into the future together with Helen Rombach-Schwartz and Birgit Rosenberg,” said Stefanie Peter, President of the ALRV

Erbers will slowly be groomed for the job. In January 2022 he will be division manager and as of 1 October 2022 member of the board. Among others, Philip Erbers has been responsible for the ticket sales and international media rights marketing for CHIO Aachen’s marketing company, Aachener Reitturnier GmbH, since 2015.

Erbers will be responsible for the sections Innovation, Infrastructure and Sustainability. Helen Rombach-Schwartz (Finances, Human Resources, Administration) and Birgit Rosenberg (Sport, CHIO Aachen CAMPUS, Events) are the remaining board members. 

 “I am delighted to carry on being part of this fantastic CHIO Aachen team in my new function,” Erbers commented. “I am very grateful for the trust that the responsible persons are placing in me.”
