Alice Oppenheimer's internationally competed Grand Prix horse Headmore Delegate has moved on to become the schoolmaster for 18-year old British young rider Chloe Hill.

Headmore Delegate is a rising 19-year old British Hanoverian by Dimaggio out of Allerliebst (by Akut x Steglitz). He is bred by Sarah Oppenheimer.

Triple Schoolmaster

Oppenheimer and Delegate competed at international Grand Prix level between 2013 and 2016. In 2017 she brought the gelding down a level. In 2017 Oppenheimer decided to take it down a notch and brought Delegate down to small tour level.

In the spring of 2017 the ride was allocated to British young rider Rebecca Edwards, who rode him on the British team at the 2017 European Young Riders Championships in Roosendaal, where they were 12th in the Kur finals. In 2018 she campaigned him at Under 25 level and represented Great Britain at the European U25 Championships in Exloo, where she was 15th in the Kur. Their last show in Uggerhalne in May 2019 ended on a low note with a double elimination.

In 2020 British young rider Ruth Hole took over and she brought him back to small tour level, competing him at one international at Keysoe.

With Hole moving into the senior ranks, a new younger rider was sought for Delegate and found in junior Chloe Hill.

Chloe Hill

Chloe Hill took over the ride on "Del" at the end of 2020 and after a spring and summer doing national events, they made her international show debut in October 2021 at Keysoe, where they placed 12th, 6 and 5th in the junior tour.

Hill's first international competition was in May 2021 in Wellington Heckfield but aboard the 15-year old Oldenburg Fort Knoxx (by Florencio x Brentano II), who was previously shown by Finnish Pia Salminen and French Camille Audo.

Hill has reached the age limit and needs to move on as a Young Rider in 2022.

"Young Riders next year is the plan as long as Del continues to love his work," owner Alice Oppenheimer told Eurodressage. "They have a fabulous training regime for him where he only actually trains in the arena once a week as he knows his job and they keep him fit and fresh with loads of hacking and cantering and Chloe’s younger sister Lottie also jumps him."

Aware of the priceless value of a trained schoolmaster for youth riders, Oppenheimer is paying it forward by allowing them to gain experience and mileage on her horse.

"Del has been so special since he moved on from me," said Alice. "He’s given so much to so many of our upcoming riders and I love watching him with them too. It’s special for me too to see a horse I produced do that for others!"
