Christian Schumach Makes Come Back with Cara Mia RCF

Austrian Olympian Christian Schumach has made his long-awaited come back with Grand Prix horse Cara Mia RCF after a three-year show break due to injury.

Cara Mia is a 12-year old Oldenburg mare by Cristallo I out of La Bonita (by Landfriese). She is bred by Christa Fries and owned by Rudolf Fries.

International Shows

The bay mare made its international show debut as a 6-year old in 2016 under Schumach's wife Stephanie Dearing. The pair competed at the CDI Achleiten and qualified for Austria for the 2016 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, where they were 15th in the consolation finals with 74.00 poins.

A year later Schumach rode her in the 7-year old tests at the CDI's in St. Margarethen and Achleiten, but they did not return to Ermelo for the WCYH.

Instead Schumach and the mare went into the senior small tour in 2018 with starts in Achleiten and Zakrzow. The latter show in October 2018 was their last.

Injury and Come Back

Cara Mia was off due to an injury and required surgery. Patient rehabilitation and a baby break as broodmare gave her plenty of time to recover. Schumach brought her back in show shape.

Schumach and Cara Mia RCF made their come back at the national show in St. Margarethen on 25 March 2022, scoring 68,728% in the Intermediaire II.

"This mare is and stays something special with her mind, ambition and possibilitis," said Schumach. "I'm incredibly proud of her and look forward to our next shows. I'm very happy and grateful to be able to continue training and presented this outstanding horse."

Owner Franziska Fries, who home bred Cara Mia with her father Rudolf, is thrilled with her mares come back. She is also looking forward to the future as Cara Mia produced the colt Glucksstern in 2021 by Glamourdale, who is now being reared at Heimo Kendlbacher's yard.
