During the 2022 World Cup finals weekend on 8 - 10 April 2022, the annual spring edition of the CDI Zakrzow in Poland welcomed riders from 8 different nations. With classes from pony level to Grand Prix their was little taste of all the divisions across the board.
One-Two for Hogberg
Swedish Jeanna Hogberg dominated the big tour with two horses: Christina Olsson's 10-year old Swedish warmblood mare Astoria (by Sir Donnerhall II x Quaterback) and Charlotte Heering's 16-year old KWPN mare Badinda Altena (by Tolando x Goodtimes). The Grand Prix featured 14 combinations and the class was judged by Andersson, Vietor; Max-Theurer, Holler, and Asmyr.
Hogberg piloted Astoria to the victory with 72.239%. The Danish based Swedish professional has trained the mare from young horse level to Grand Prix and successfully competed her in the World Young Horse Championships. With her more recent ride, Badinda Altena, she finished second on 70.043%. Danish real estate mogul (Jeudan) Jens Erik Udsen acquired the former French team horse from Pierre Volla for Charlotte Heering to ride. She only once showed her internationally in 2020 in Aarhus. The chestnut pocket rocket disappeared from the scene and resurfaced two years later in the sales yard of Andreas Helgstrand, where Hogborg took on the ride.
Hogberg went on to win the Grand Prix Special on Badinda with 72.915%, but Astoria was rung out from the freestyle.
"When I came to my joker line I didn’t know what to do again because everything had worked out so well. I was so happy with my super girl, but Astoria must have bit herself on the last centerline," Hogberg explained. "I was done with the test when one of the judges noticed it. I hope that Astoria didn’t even feel it, it was so little so we couldn’t find where it came from afterward, but it was clearly there after the test and according to the rules we were eliminated. Of course Im sad, but for me we still had a super good test. (...) We are still very pleased with the competition in Poland. Two wins and one second place and we take home a lot of nice memories and experiences!"
Swedish Big Tour Sweep
The Kur was won by country mate Jacob Norby Sorensen on Sheeran, Bjarke Laustsen's 11-year old Oldenburg by Sir Donnerhall x Johnson with which he made his Swedish team debut at the 2021 European Championships in Hagen. In the Zakrzow freestyle he posted 75.945% for the trophy.
"Sheeran felt like walking on clouds," Jacob took to social media after his freestyle win.
Poland's Zaneta Skowronska and her 13-year old Thuringian bred Romantic P (by Rosenstein x Furst Heinrich) was the runner-up in the Kur with 74.910% after placing fifth in the Grand Prix (69.348%).
