Japanese team rider Akane Kuroki has withdrawn from competing at the 2022 World Championships Dressage in Herning on 6 - 10 August 2022.
The rider reported that she has a covid infection and is therefore pulling out of the competition.
"To everyone who supported us, to everyone who has supported us until today, to the Japanese team, and to the Japan Arts Federation, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern," Kuroki posted. "It's very frustrating with this result, but I want to change my mind and focus on getting in shape first."
Akane Kuroki was selected to ride her stallion Elastico (by Johnson x Concorde), who won gold at the 2021 European Under 25 Championships under German Raphael Netz. The 13-year old KWPN stallion is listed as owned by Yoko Frencken, Yoko Matsuda, and Sophie Textor.
Japan will continue to be represented by a team in Herning with Kazuki Sado (Barolo), Shingo Hayashi (Scolari), and Kiichi Harada (Sir Galanto).
The Japanese equestrian federation did not appoint a reserve rider so no fourth member is stepping in. German Christoph Koschel is the team trainer for Japan.
