The KWPN licensed stallion Zhivago has passed away at his home, Canadream Farm in Ottawa, Canada, on 17 September 2022. He was 18 years old.

Zhivago was a 2004 born KWPN stallion by Krack C out of Orendy (by Jazz). He was bred at Pegasus Stables in Bentelo, The Netherlands.

Reserve Licensing Champion

Owned by Joop van Uytert and De Radstake, Zhivago was the reserve champion of the 2007 KWPN Stallion Licensing and went on to win the 2007 KWPN Autumn Stallion performance testing with 87 points.

Edward Gal briefly rode Zhivago at the start, but in the winter of 2009 Zhivago moved to Theo Hanzon's barn. He took the stallion to Intermediaire II level. The pair won the 2010 and 2011 KWPN Stallion Competition and 2009 Pavo Cup Finals. They represented the KWPN breed at the 2010 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, where he was 8th in the 6-year old finals.

John Tijssen rode the stallion briefly followed by Dinja van Liere who competed him in his only international CDI at small tour level in Ermelo during the 2016 World Young Horse Championships. His last rider was Kristy de Roo.

Although Zhivago impressed and scored as a talented young dressage stallion, he did not make a break through at FEI level.

In November 2018, Zhivago sold to Marie Jose Proulx of Canadream Farm in Ottawa.

She stood up for stud for the past four years. On 17 September, he passed away.

"He suffered an aneurysm, enjoying the beautiful day in his paddock," said Proulx. "He passed away with the two people who loved him the most by his side, me and Karen. Zhivago was a true gentleman, a sweet soul and is and will always be deeply missed at our farm. He will live on through his incredible offspring."

Legacy

Zhivago sired one licensed son in The Netherlands, the late Estoril (by Zhivago x Gribaldi), who was competed by Emmelie Scholtens. In other breed societies he sired licensed sons Duke (by Zhivago x Schwadroneur - Oldenburg) and Hero ACB (by Zhivago x Havel - AES).
