The German equestrian federation (FN) has announced the combinations that have qualified for the 2023 Preis der Besten in Warendorf on 19 - 21 May 2023.
Two qualifiers for the Preis der Besten were held in April: at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen for the the northern based German youth riders and at Gestut Schafhof in Kronberg last weekend for the southern based riders.
The Preis der Besten is a German U21 competition circuit, which starts with training seminars, where the regional and national team trainers make a selection of those riders eligible to go to the qualifiers. The best pairs at these two qualification events are invited to the actual "Preis der Besten" (Prize of the Best) in Warendorf, which is also the first German team selection trial for the European Youth Championships in the summer. The second team selection trial is the CDIO-PJYR Hagen "Future Champions" at Hof Kasselmann in June.
Biggest absentees from the list are the 2022 European Children ChampionMartha Raupach, who last year's Children Preis der Besten winner. She rode Jack Sparrow in the Hagen qualifier and not her second horse Francis Drake; and 2022 European Young Riders Champion Helena Schmitz-Morkramer who has put riding on the back burner and is currently in London while her junior rider sister Allegra has taken over Lifestyle.
