Ireland Sends First Ever Junior Team to 2023 European Junior Riders Championships

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Youth Dressage High Performance Director Anne Marie Dunphy has named the athletes and horses selected to represent Ireland at the 2023 European Junior Riders Championships in Kronberg (GER) on 18 - 23 July 2023.

This is the first time there has been a Junior (under 18) team selected to represent Ireland at the Championship.

“Our first Junior team for the European Championships is a milestone for the HSI Youth Dressage Programme," Said Dunphy. "All athletes have shown strong performances throughout the selection period, Cillian and Jessica have previous championship experience at pony level, while Sophia will be making her debut on a team."

“I would like to congratulate the athletes, their parents and support teams for their continued commitment to the High Performance Programme and thank our sponsors for their continued support.”

Dunphy selected the following three riders to make the team:

  • Cillian Curran – Dancing Espri, an 11-year old Hanoverian by Denario x Espri
  • Sophia Doheny – Batiqar, a 17-year old KWPN by Obelisk x Juventus
  • Jessica Grogan – Christianson, a 16-year old KWPN by Briar x Voltaire

Ireland will also send an individual to the Children Championship at the sam venue at the same time: Maeve Deverell – Annaharvey Dunowen (ISH), a 2013 born gelding by Radolin (KWPN) out of Who Dun It (ISH).
