The venue of the CDI and CPEDI Waregem will undergo major renovations and in the first phase a new all-weather arena is planned.

The renovation project will cost 1 million euro and includes the new arena, a new lunging ring, and new stalls. Sport Flanders is subsidising 220,000 euro of that amount.

The venue is owned and managed by the city of Waregem in partnership with the non-profit organisation VZW De Gaverbeek, which also hosts the famous Waregem horse races.

"The arena has been here for 40 years. When the weather is dry it's a heap of sand and not good for the horses," Wim Vanderscheuren of VZW De Gaverbeek told VRT.  "Now money has been made available to renew the entire arena. There will be a ring that can be used in dry, wet and sub zero weather."

The stables will have to be enlarged as the law says a horse stall needs to be minimum 3m x 3m and these are 2,9m x 2,9m. Also the roof of the stables will be replaced.

Construction will start in the autumn and will take up to three years
