British Team Announced for 2023 European Dressage Championships

British Equestrian and the British Dressage selectors confirmed the four horse and rider combinations that will form their list of definite entries ahead of the 2023 European Dressage Championship, set to take place in Riesenbeck, Germany from 5–10 September this year.

British Dressage International Director Judy Harvey commented: "Quite simply this is the ‘dream team’. We have possibly one of the strongest teams we have ever sent to a European Championship. All four riders are medallists, and their horses are a fabulous blend of talent and proven ability. I am very excited to see how they fare; Not only is it a strong team but they will all be in the mix for individual medals too.” 

Definite entries in alphabetical order by athlete surname:

  • Charlotte Dujardin (38) with Carl Hester and Coral Ingham’s Imhotep (10 yrs, Everdale x Vivaldi, Breeder: T Huizing NED, Groom: Francesca Gorni).
  • Charlotte Fry (27)  with Van Olst Horses’ Glamourdale (12 yrs, Lord Leatherdale x Negro, Breeder: J Rodenburg NED, Groom: Richard Hauwaerts).
  • Carl Hester (56) with Fiona Bigwood, Penny Bigwood, Mette Bigwood and Anders Dahl’s Fame (13 yrs, Bordeaux 28 x Rhodium, Breeder: V.O.F Gerritsen NED, Groom: Lucy Scudamore).
  • Gareth Hughes (52)  with Julia Hornig, Rebecca Hughes, Ruby Hughes and his own Classic Briolinca (17 yrs, Trento B x Royal Dance, Breeder: Febr van der Steen NED, Groom: Steph Sharples).

Charlotte Fry has Van Olst Horses’ Everdale (14yrs, Lord Leatherdale x Negro, Breeder: P Kluytmans NED) as a direct reserve; Carl Hester has Sandra Biddlecombe, Charlotte Dujardin and Lady Anne Evans and his own En Vogue (14 yrs, Jazz x Contango, Breeder: A Van der Goor NED) as direct reserve.

Two reserve combinations have been declared in case Dujardin or Hughes drop out

  • Andrew Gould (43)  with Tatiana Skillman’s Indigro (10 yrs, Negro x Jazz, Breeder: J Deenen NED, Groom: Nat Campbell)
  • Becky Moody (43)  with her own Jagerbomb (9 yrs, Dante Weltino x Jazz, Breeder: B Moody GBR, Groom: Kim Masson).
