Canadian Grand Prix rider Alexandra Duncan has acquired the KWPN licensed stallion McKenzy JHL as a Grand Prix prospect. He completes her string of horses alongside Paris hopefuls, Illusionist M and Grand Diamond, which will join her on the road to the Olympics.

McKenzy JHL

McKenzy JHL is a 6-year old KWPN registered and Gelderlander bred stallion by Alexandro P out of elite mare Happiness (by WV Saron). He is bred by L. Roerdink.

The bay was licensed at the 2020 KWPN Stallion Licensing and successfully completed his performance test, scoring 8 for walk and trot, 9 for canter, 9 for self carriage and 8.5 for potential.

He was first competed in The Netherlands by Kim Leduc, who rode him in the 2021 Pavo Cup semi finals. In 2022 Diederik van Silfhout bought the stallion together with Paul Jansen and Nikay van Duren and produced him up the levels. The pair was featured in the stallion show at the 2023 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch.

Canadian Grand Prix rider Alexandra Duncan spotted talent and potential in the 6-year old licensed stallion and after a shopping trip to Switzerland secured him as her FEI hopeful.

"I heard he was on the market and now he’s coming to me," said a thrilled Duncan, who runs a dressage training and sales business in Wellington, Florida.

"I want to develop him to Grand Prix as a hopeful for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and meanwhile stand him at stud. He carries valuable Gelderlander genes and has an amazing work ethic. I will work with the Palm Beach Equine Reproductive team, so he becomes available to North American and European breeders.

Alexandra and Illusionist M
The 33-year old Duncan is a highly decorated dressage rider, who more than a decade ago earned double team and individual gold at the 2006 and 2007 North American Young Riders Championships. She also placed fourth at the 2006 Young Rider World Cup Finals.

To further her knowledge and skills in dressage, Duncan left her home in Vancouver, Canada, and travelled to Europe to work under Swedish Olympian Jan Brink and Dutch Olympian Anky van Grunsven, before settling down in Wellington, Florida, in 2014. KWPN gelding Vitall (by Ferro x Aram) took her into the Under 25 and senior Grand Prix division between 2014 and 2019. In 2023 Alexandra made her come back to the CDI ring aboard the gorgeous Oldenburg bred Giotto (by Gandhi x Fidertanz), which she now sold to a dear client.

Training with Danish Olympian Lars Petersen, Alexandra is working towards a coveted spot on the Canadian Olympic team.

"I will campaign McKenzy at small tour with the plans to get him to Grand Prix," said Alexandra. "He is joining the line up with my two current Grand Prix horses as well as two small tour horses, King (by Lord Leatherdale x Ferro) and Kopperfield C-Two (by Toto Jr x Ferro) which I want to move up to the Grand Prix as well. All these horses I want to produce with plans for Paris and LA."

Duncan is preparing Grand Prix horses Illusionist M (by Charmeur x Vivaldi) and Grand Diamond (by Governor x Don Romantic) for their Grand Prix debut at the 2024 Global Dressage Festival coming winter.
