Remidemi, a former multiple Italian Young Riders' team horse, has passed away. He was 25 years old.

Remidemi was a 1998 Bavarian bred gelding by Rabano out of Patparatscha (by Pik Labionics x Fruhlingstraum II x Gigant). He was bred by Josef Estendorfer.

The Bavarian gelding was bought from Therese Meran by the Schumann family as a Christmas gift for Xenia in December 2012.

The liver chestnut gelding made a late competition start in life and only first appeared on the international show scene in 2013, ridden by the Austrian junior rider Xenia Herta Schumann.

The pair campaigned at CDI's in Radzionko, Lipica, Achleiten, Hagen, Brno and Fot. They were fifth at the 2013 Austrian Junior Riders Championships.

Italian Youth Team Horse

In 2014 Xenia had declared to ride for her mother's country, Italy and debuted at the CDI Caselle di Sommacampagna with the Italian flag on her saddle pad. They were selected for the 2014 European Junior Riders Championships, but at the CDI Hagen he injured his eye and had to undergo surgery. He lost his left eye but coped well with the new situation and went on to win double silver at the 2014 Italian Junior Riders Championships.

In 2015 they moved up to Young Riders level and ended up representing Italy at four European Young Riders Championships. In 2015 they were 33rd in the individual test in Vidauban, in 2016 they placed 41st in the individual test in Oliva Nova, in 2017 they were 55th in the individual test in Roosendaal, and in 2018 they placed 45th in the individual test in Fontainebleau.

At CDI's they won in Lipica in 2016 and Brno in 2018.

Schoolmaster and Retirement

The 2018 Europeans in Fontainebleau were the pair's last international show. The horse was a schoolmaster for junior Susanne Mayer and competed with hernationally in Austria in 2018 and 2019 at a handful of shows.

The horse's last show in his career was in June 2019 at age 21.

He enjoyed his retirement for a further four years. He passed away on 26 September 2023.

"Remidemi had an esophageal obstruction. We tried all we could but he did not make it," Xenia's mum Sabine Schumann told Eurodressage. "He will be remembered as one of the best schoolmasters of all times. He spent the past years having fun with our breeding mares and foals playing around in our big fields. We will dearly miss this wonderful  schoolmaster and family member."
